Before you blame the fragrance oil, check these 6 things

Don't blame the oil until you know what actually changed.

When a candle, wax melt, room spray or diffuser suddenly performs differently, it's easy to point at the fragrance oil. But nine times out of ten it's something else that quietly changed. This guide walks through six quick things to check first — so you can trace the real cause instead of guessing.

The 6 things to check

  • 1.Did you record the fragrance supplier? A different supplier can perform differently, even when the scent name sounds similar.
  • 2.Did you record the batch number? Different batches can behave differently, even when everything else looks the same.
  • 3.Did you use the same percentage? Small percentage changes can have a big effect on performance.
  • 4.Did the wax or base change? Wax, room spray base or diffuser base can all affect how a fragrance performs.
  • 5.Did cure time or testing conditions change? Time, temperature and conditions can all change what you're seeing.
  • 6.Did you compare it with your last successful batch? Comparison makes troubleshooting much easier — it shows exactly what changed.

Tip: keeping supplier, batch, percentage and test notes in one place — like Pour & Track — makes every one of these checks a two-second look.
